Day 1 - Mindful Eating

Welcome to my blog - 30 Days of Healthy Habits Challenge through the Sleek Geek community in South Africa. http://ultimateyou.co.za/30day1/

Today is Day 1, and today's healthy habit is "Mindful Eating".

There are many reasons to slow down and eat mindfully, and I can honestly say that I do try to stick to all of them.

I live alone, but I was brought up that meals were a time for the family to sit together and share their day. Despite the fact that I now eat alone most of the time, I still take the time to set a place for myself at the table, with a placemat, knife and fork, and a glass of wine or water. I admit that I have been known to watch an episode of my favourite series at the same time, but I will try and avoid this from now onwards.

I have a new kitten, and he hasn't yet realised that my plate is not for sharing, so at the moment I'm spending my mealtime grabbing him and putting him off the table. Hopefully he gets the message soon - because it's quite difficult to be mindful while fending off a cat intent on stealing your meal!

I like this infographic about mindful eating, and I certainly will be making an effort to incorporate this practice into my daily life. The infographic came from a website called visual.ly
Lunch eaten at my desk today. I usually go to the staff room and eat in the company of my colleagues, but today I was in the auditorium with my Grade 8 group rehearsing for their forthcoming play.
Today's lunch was 2 egg muffins, 2 slices of sweet potato bread, fruit salad and almonds.
I had 94.7 streaming on my PC while I ate so it was a very pleasant experience all round.

Dinner at the Euroclub in Heliopolis with Sheila and Sandra, Ray and Bernie. We were trying out the chef's new chicken and mushroom pies, and they were delicious. It was very convivial as we ate and chatted, and commented on the new pies. I ate my whole pie, but left most of the peas and chips. A fitting end to my Day 1, mindful and peaceful.
